PRESS: VK, Yandex, Sber, Rostelecom to create Android-based OS

MOSCOW, Dec 30 (PRIME) -- Russian Internet company VK and Yandex, bank Sber, and telecom operator Rostelecom will set up a firm that will develop a new Android-based mobile operating system and a platform to replace Google Mobile Services, business daily Kommersant reported on Friday quoting a government source.

The Digital Development Ministry will engage a group of developers to the project of the national mobile ecosystem, the source said.

The development of a new operating system does not contradict Rostelecom’s plans to work on its mobile ecosystem around operating system Aurora to be used in the corporate and state sectors, because the new system will focus on the consumer segment.

A source from the electronics market, VK and Sber are interested in creation of an analogue of Google Mobile Services. This platform is needed “for everyone who want their applications to have sufficient functions,” the source said.
